Ingredients
2 lbs chicken thighs or breasts cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs beaten
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika optional
2 cups vegetable oil for frying
1 cup fresh orange juice
1 orange zest
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp hoisin sauce optional
1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
3 cloves garlic minced
1 tsp red chili flakes optional
2 tbsp cornstarch
3 tbsp water
2 cups cooked white rice
2 tbsp sesame seeds
3 green onions sliced
Instructions
1. Prepare coating by mixing cornstarch, flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Dip chicken in eggs and coat.
2. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
3. Fry chicken in batches until golden and cooked through.
4. Double fry for extra crispiness.
5. Prepare sauce with orange juice, zest, soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, and hoisin.
6. Add garlic, ginger, chili flakes and simmer.
7. Add cornstarch slurry and thicken sauce.
8. Toss chicken in sauce before serving.
9. Serve over rice with garnish.
Notes
Use fresh orange juice for best flavor.
Avoid overcrowding the pan when frying.
