Every bite is packed with tender corn kernels coated in a creamy, buttery sauce that tastes far better than canned versions. Whether you need an easy dinner side dish, a holiday favorite, or comforting food ideas for gatherings, this homemade Creamed Corn recipe is simple to prepare and incredibly satisfying. It works beautifully with roasted meats, grilled chicken, turkey, steak, and potluck spreads while using basic pantry ingredients you probably already have at home.

Ingredients

6 cups sweet corn kernels

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

2 tablespoons cream cheese softened

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons granulated sugar optional

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese optional

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley optional

2 slices cooked bacon crumbled optional

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves optional

Instructions

1. Prepare the corn by removing kernels from fresh corn cobs or draining canned corn thoroughly. If using frozen corn, thaw slightly and pat dry.

2. Melt the butter in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.

3. Add the corn kernels and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until tender and glossy.

4. Stir in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and sugar if using.

5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and flour until smooth.

6. Slowly pour the milk mixture into the skillet while stirring continuously.

7. Add the heavy cream and cream cheese, stirring until fully melted and combined.

8. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10–15 minutes until the sauce thickens.

9. Stir frequently to prevent sticking and scorching on the bottom of the pan.

10. Add parmesan cheese, cayenne pepper, bacon, or herbs if desired for additional flavor.

11. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

12. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Use fresh sweet corn during summer months for the best flavor and natural sweetness.

For extra creamy texture, blend 1 cup of the cooked corn mixture and stir it back into the skillet.

Reheat leftovers slowly over low heat with a splash of milk to maintain a smooth creamy consistency.
