Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting), room temperature

2 cups powdered sugar

23 tablespoons milk or cream

23 drops pink or red food coloring

2 tablespoons Valentine’s Day sprinkles

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.

3. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan.

7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

8. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before frosting.

9. For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually mix in powdered sugar and enough milk or cream to reach a spreadable consistency.

10. Add pink or red food coloring and mix until evenly colored.

11. Spread the frosting over the cooled bars and top with sprinkles.

12. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

Let the bars cool fully before frosting to avoid melting the buttercream.

For clean cuts, chill the bars for 15–20 minutes and wipe the knife between slices.

Store frosted bars in an airtight container to keep them soft and fresh.
