Ingredients
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup heavy cream
12 ounces wide egg noodles
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix just until combined.
2. Form the meat mixture into 1 to 1.5-inch balls.
3. Heat a skillet with oil over medium heat and brown the meatballs in batches. Set aside.
4. Cook the egg noodles in salted water until al dente, then drain and toss with a bit of butter or oil.
5. In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour to make a roux. Slowly add beef broth, whisking to avoid lumps.
6. Simmer until thickened, then stir in sour cream and heavy cream. Season to taste.
7. Combine cooked noodles and sauce in a baking dish and toss until coated.
8. Nestle browned meatballs into the noodles and spoon some sauce over them.
9. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
10. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
Let the bake rest for 5–10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to set.
You can prepare this dish up to a day in advance and bake it when needed.
For extra depth, add a pinch of Dijon mustard to the sauce or a splash of Worcestershire sauce.
