Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha or red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water (or broth), brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  2. In a separate small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in a few tablespoons of water, then stir it into the soy sauce mixture.
  3. Heat a small saucepan over medium heat and pour in the sauce mixture.
  4. Stir continuously and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and use immediately, or let it cool and store in an airtight container in the fridge.
