Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1/2 cup sour cream

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)

3 cups powdered sugar

3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

food coloring (optional)

sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

1. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

2. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in sour cream and vanilla.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.

5. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.

6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets.

7. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into rounds.

8. Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.

9. Cool cookies completely on a wire rack.

10. Prepare frosting by beating butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until fluffy.

11. Frost cooled cookies and decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for the best texture and smooth mixing.

Do not overbake the cookies to keep them soft and tender.

Chilling the dough is essential to prevent spreading and maintain thickness.
