Ingredients

  • 8 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ¼ cup apple juice (or water)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Peel, core, and slice the apples into ½-inch thick wedges. Toss them in a bowl with lemon juice.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Layer half of the apples in the slow cooker, sprinkle with half the sugar mixture. Repeat with the remaining apples and sugar.
  • Dot the top with butter pieces.
  • In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch and apple juice until smooth. Pour over the apples.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 3–4 hours, until apples are tender but not mushy.
