Perfect for entertaining, make-ahead, and full of texture — it’s one of the best food ideas for any season!

Ingredients

1 batch fudgy brownies (8x8 pan size)

0.5 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

16 oz cream cheese, softened

0.5 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1.5 cups heavy whipping cream, cold

1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)

6 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed

0.5 cup heavy cream (for caramel)

0.5 tsp sea salt

Whipped cream (optional topping)

Chocolate shavings (optional topping)

Extra caramel drizzle (optional topping)

Sea salt flakes (optional topping)

Instructions

1. Prepare the brownies using a mix or homemade recipe. Let them cool completely, then chill for 30 minutes and cut into cubes.

2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar for the caramel, stirring until amber. Add butter, then cream slowly while whisking. Stir in sea salt. Let cool.

3. In a bowl, beat softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. In another bowl, whip the cream to stiff peaks. Fold into cream cheese mixture to create mousse.

4. Begin layering: Add a layer of brownie cubes in the trifle bowl. Top with cheesecake mousse, then drizzle salted caramel.

5. Repeat the layers — brownie, mousse, caramel — until all components are used. Finish with mousse and final caramel drizzle.

6. Add whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or crushed nuts if using. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt flakes on top.

7. Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours or overnight before serving for best texture and flavor.

Notes

Make sure brownies are fully cooled before layering to avoid melting the mousse.

Use a piping bag for the cheesecake mousse to get clean layers.

Homemade caramel adds more depth, but store-bought works in a pinch.
