Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, diced or shredded
  • 3 cups broccoli florets, steamed or blanched
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk (or heavy cream for a richer sauce)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers (optional, for topping)
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Prepare the ingredients: Cook and dice the chicken, and steam or blanch the broccoli until tender.
  3. Make the cheese sauce: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, whisking continuously.
  4. Gradually add the milk and chicken broth, whisking until smooth and thickened. Reduce heat and stir in cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Assemble the casserole: Place the chicken and broccoli in the baking dish, then pour the cheese sauce evenly over the top.
  6. Add the topping: Sprinkle breadcrumbs or crushed crackers over the casserole for a crispy finish. For extra flavor, add parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown. If desired, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes for a crispier top.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
