Ingredients
1 lb potato gnocchi
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
olive oil or melted butter for toasting breadcrumbs
Instructions
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add gnocchi and cook until they float (about 2–3 minutes). Remove and set aside.
2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
3. Add heavy cream, milk, mustard, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
4. Stir in mozzarella and half of the Parmesan until smooth and melted.
5. Gently fold in the cooked gnocchi.
6. Transfer to an oven-safe dish and top with remaining Parmesan and breadcrumbs.
7. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes, broil for 2–3 minutes if desired.
8. Let rest for 5–10 minutes, garnish with chives, and serve.
Notes
Use freshly grated cheese for better meltability.
Don’t overcook the gnocchi—remove them as soon as they float.
To make ahead, assemble and refrigerate before baking.
Reheat gently with a splash of milk or cream to refresh the sauce.
