Ingredients
1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
4 soft hamburger buns
4 slices American cheese
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
8 pickle slices (optional)
2 tablespoons yellow mustard (optional)
2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
Instructions
1. Thinly slice the onions and separate the rings.
2. Divide ground beef into 4 loose portions and shape gently into balls.
3. Preheat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat until very hot.
4. Place beef on skillet, top with onions, and smash firmly to 1/4 inch thickness.
