Description

Start your morning the deliciously lazy way with this Lazy Biscuits & Gravy Breakfast Casserole—a simple, cozy, and hearty dish that brings southern comfort to your breakfast table. This easy recipe layers creamy homemade sausage gravy with golden, flaky biscuits in one pan, making it the perfect choice for a quick breakfast, weekend brunch, or even a comforting easy dinner. If you’re looking for new breakfast ideas or a go-to food idea for guests, this casserole checks all the boxes with minimal effort and maximum flavor.

Ingredients

1 can buttermilk biscuits (Grands-style preferred)

1 pound breakfast sausage

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 1/2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Pinch crushed red pepper or thyme (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbly. Do not drain all the fat.

3. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir for 1-2 minutes to cook the flour slightly.

4. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring. Simmer until the mixture thickens into gravy.

5. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices as desired.

6. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

7. Pour the sausage gravy into the dish and spread evenly.

8. Open the biscuit can and cut each biscuit into quarters.

9. Place the biscuit pieces evenly over the gravy, leaving small gaps for even baking.

10. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes or until biscuits are golden and cooked through.

11. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use a thick gravy so the biscuits don’t get soggy.

Let the casserole rest before serving—it helps the gravy set.

Cut biscuits evenly to ensure they bake all the way through.
