With just a few pantry staples, you can make a bakery-style loaf in your own kitchen. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned baker, this bread will quickly become a household favorite!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour (or all-purpose flour)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast – In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough – In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the warm milk, softened butter, and the yeast mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough – Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise – Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Dough – Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  6. Second Rise – Cover the pan and let the dough rise for another 30–45 minutes until it slightly puffs above the edges of the pan.
  7. Bake – Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the top with an egg wash if desired, then bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool & Serve – Let the bread cool in the pan for 5–10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Wait at least 30 minutes before slicing.
