Description

This homemade chili is a rich, hearty blend of ground beef, beans, tomatoes, and spices—slow-simmered to perfection. It’s comforting, full of bold flavors, and perfect for family dinners, game days, or meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes (with juice)
  • 2 (15 oz) cans kidney beans, rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef broth or water
  • Optional toppings: cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onions, jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper; sauté until soft.
  2. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add ground beef. Brown thoroughly, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and cook for another minute.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, and broth.
  6. Season with chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  7. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and let simmer for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot with desired toppings.
