Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 preferred)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form into 4–6 oval patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each.
  3. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and sauté over medium heat for 8–10 minutes until caramelized.
  5. Sprinkle flour over onions, stir, and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  6. Slowly pour in beef broth, whisking until smooth. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  7. Return patties to skillet and spoon gravy over each. Cover and simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
