Simple to make, irresistibly delicious—this is one recipe you’ll be making all season long.

Ingredients

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 egg yolks

1/2 cup eggnog

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

2 to 3 tablespoons eggnog

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg. Set aside.

2. In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Add egg yolks, eggnog, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.

4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients just until combined.

5. Cover dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

7. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.

8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers are still soft.

9. Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

10. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually mix in powdered sugar.

11. Add eggnog 1 tablespoon at a time until desired frosting consistency is reached.

12. Frost cooled cookies and sprinkle with nutmeg before serving.

Notes

Chill the dough for at least one hour to prevent cookies from spreading too much.

Use full-fat eggnog for the richest flavor and best consistency in frosting.

Allow cookies to cool completely before frosting to avoid melting.
