Description

Golden and crispy on the outside, tender and herby on the inside—this Crispy Herb Stuffing is the ultimate easy recipe to bring classic comfort to your table. With savory sautéed onions, fresh herbs like sage and rosemary, and cubes of toasted bread soaked in broth, this dish is perfect for Thanksgiving, holiday dinners, or any cozy meal. If you’re searching for dinner ideas, food ideas for gatherings, or a quick side for an easy dinner, this stuffing checks all the boxes. It’s also a great make-ahead option for stress-free entertaining.

Ingredients

6 cups crusty bread cubes (French or sourdough, dried or toasted)

6 tablespoons butter

1 large yellow onion, finely chopped

3 celery stalks, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh sage, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 3/4 cups vegetable or chicken broth

2 eggs (optional, beaten)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.

2. If your bread isn’t dry, toast the cubes in a 300°F oven for 20–30 minutes until golden.

3. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery; sauté until soft, about 10 minutes.

4. Stir in garlic, sage, rosemary, and parsley. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.

5. In a large bowl, combine bread cubes with the sautéed mixture and toss well.

6. Slowly pour in broth, tossing as you go until the bread is moist but not soggy.

7. Season with salt and pepper. Add beaten eggs if using, and mix gently.

8. Transfer to prepared baking dish and dot the top with extra butter.

9. Bake uncovered for 35–45 minutes or until the top is golden and crisp.

10. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use dried or toasted bread for best texture—fresh bread will turn mushy.

Don’t overdo the broth—add gradually to reach the right consistency.

You can prep the entire stuffing a day ahead and bake it fresh for serving.
