Ingredients
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 large eggs
1/3 cup milk
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1. In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, cheddar, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
2. Refrigerate mixture for 15–20 minutes until firm.
3. Scoop into bite-sized balls and place on a parchment-lined tray; chill again.
4. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, eggs, and milk into a thick batter.
5. Dip each cheese ball into the batter, then optionally roll in breadcrumbs.
6. Heat oil in a pot to 350°F (175°C).
7. Fry poppers in small batches for 2–3 minutes until golden.
8. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
9. Serve hot with dipping sauce of choice.
Notes
Make sure the cream cheese is fully softened for easier mixing.
Don’t skip chilling the filling—it helps with shaping and prevents melting during frying.
Fry in small batches to keep oil temperature consistent for crispiness.
