Ingredients

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

100 g cooked ham, sliced or cubed

100 g cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1/4 tsp black pepper, freshly cracked

1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped

Instructions

1. Thaw puff pastry according to package instructions, then roll it out gently on a floured surface.

2. Cut the pastry into 3-inch squares.

3. Place a slice of ham and a piece of cheese in the center of each square.

4. Fold the squares into triangles or rectangles and press the edges to seal.

5. Place pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

6. Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with black pepper and chopped chives.

7. Chill the filled pastries in the fridge for 10 minutes.

8. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

9. Bake for 15–20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.

10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Make sure puff pastry is cold but pliable for easier handling.

Chilling pastries before baking helps them keep their shape.

You can freeze the pastries either before or after baking.
