Ingredients

  • 1 lb cheese tortellini (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook tortellini for 1-2 minutes less than package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. In a large bowl or directly in the baking dish, combine tortellini and meat sauce.
  7. Transfer mixture to a 9×13-inch baking dish. Top evenly with mozzarella and parmesan.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 2-3 minutes for a golden top, if desired.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
