Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup unsalted butter
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Place 1/2 cup unsalted butter in an 8×8-inch baking dish and let it melt in the oven.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.
3. Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be sticky and lumpy.
4. Carefully remove the hot dish with melted butter from the oven. Spoon the dough into the dish, spreading it gently to the edges.
5. Score the top of the dough into 9 squares using a butter knife for easy portioning.
6. Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden brown on top and bubbly around the edges.
7. Let cool for a few minutes before cutting along the scored lines and serving warm.
Notes
Make sure your butter is fully melted and hot before adding the dough.
Cold buttermilk works best for tender biscuits.
Don’t skip scoring the dough — it helps with even baking and serving.
