1 cup water

42 oz cherry pie filling (2 cans)

2 tablespoons kirsch or cherry liqueur (optional)

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup fresh cherries

1/4 cup dark chocolate shavings

1/4 cup chocolate truffle pieces (optional)

Fresh mint leaves (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

1. Bake the chocolate cake according to package instructions and let it cool completely.

2. Cut the cooled cake into 1-inch cubes.

3. In a bowl, stir the cherry pie filling. Mix in kirsch if using.

4. In a chilled bowl, whip heavy cream to soft peaks, then add powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat to stiff peaks.

5. In a trifle dish, layer half the chocolate cake cubes evenly.

6. Spread half of the cherry filling over the cake.

7. Add a thick layer of whipped cream and smooth it with a spatula.

8. Repeat the layers with remaining cake, cherries, and whipped cream.

9. Garnish with fresh cherries, chocolate shavings, optional truffles, mint, and powdered sugar.

10. Chill for at least 2–3 hours before serving for best flavor and presentation.

Notes

The kirsch is optional but adds authentic Black Forest flavor.
