Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
3 large eggs, room temperature
1/2 cup whole milk
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup almond flour (optional)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon freshly ground cardamom
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–5 minutes).
3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
4. In another bowl, sift together flour, almond flour (if using), baking powder, salt, and cardamom.
5. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk into the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry mix.
6. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the surface.
8. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
10. Dust with powdered sugar once fully cooled.
Notes
For best flavor, use freshly ground cardamom instead of pre-ground.
Almond flour adds moisture and a delicate nutty flavor, but can be omitted.
